East Kilbride United is a Community Football which was formed when the two oldest Clubs in the town, East Kilbride YM FC (1921) and East Kilbride YC (1969), came together in 2013.
Each Club maintained their own Identity, Committees, Finances, Teams etc but formed an 'overarching' Community Football Club with a Community Club Executive Committee. The Committee comprises of two persons from each Club and a Chairman rotating between both Clubs.
The aim was to provide a player pathway from 4 years of age right through to the YM Old Crocks' side with players over 60 years of age. After a lot of hard work the Club became a Scottish Football Association (SFA) Quality Marked Club in 2014.
The other major aim was to try and locate a Hub for the Club which we could call our home. In March 2019 the Club took possession of Kirktonholme Pavilion and two grass football pitches in West Mains Road in East Kilbride.
With the assistance of grants from Viridor, SLC Renewable Energy Fund and the Scottish Football Partnership the Club spent £50,000 in 2020 to renovate both football pitches turning them into two of the best grass pitches in the West of Scotland.
Additional fund raising allowed the Club to also erect a 400m Spectator Rail Fence around both football pitches.
With the unbelievable support of the local community, Individuals, Companies, Volunteers and local politicians we were able to separate the large communal changing area into four changing rooms with state of the art facilities. A Club Room was given a complete makeover and an alcohol licence secured from the Local Authority to provide us with a fully licensed Club Room and Cafe.
All of the above could not have been achieved without the incredible support of the local business community and friends of the club who have donated or provided over £100,000 of materials and labour.
Recently the local Walking Football Group, the Gerryhattricks have joined East Kilbride United and this increases the Player Pathway age groups considerably.
